Give to the Lord

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV)

Giving is not something done to “get right” with God, but rather an expression of God’s rightness being expressed within us. Becoming generous is the antidote to becoming selfish. It makes the difference between controlling our resources and our resources controlling us!

Supporting Goldston Methodist Church through your gifts is about more than paying the bills, but about expressing God’s love throughout our community and into the broader world. The tithe of 10% is a Biblical model for generosity. Use the following chart to evaluate your own level of giving relative to the tithe.

  1. Locate your income (top chart: weekly, bottom chart: monthly, whichever is easiest to match your cash flow) in the far left column.

  2. Locate your current and/or desired giving from the appropriate row. This will indicate what percentage of your income is reflected by your giving. The tithe percentage is reflected in the second to last column on the right as a weekly/monthly amount and the final column indicates an annual amount.
